The HP Insights Windows Application (also called the Windows Agent) works as the data collection and monitoring component of the HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP). It helps WXP gather device insights, proactively detect issues, and improve the overall technology experience for employees.
By default, after the Windows Agent is installed, a tray icon appears in the Windows system tray to indicate that the agent is running in the background. In some company setups, IT teams may want to hide this icon for security or appearance reasons. HP allows you to show or hide this icon using a Registry Setting. The appearance of the icon also depends on how the agent is installed and which HP support plan is being used.
This article explains the default behavior of the tray icon and how to hide or show it using registry settings.
Hide Tray Icon
To remove the icon from the Windows system tray, open the Registry Editor and navigate to:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Hewlett-Packard\HP Touchpoint Manager] "HideTrayIcon"="False"
Set the value of HideTrayIcon to True
and close the Registry Editor.
The latest Windows Agent automatically removes the icon without needing a restart. However, if the change does not happen right away, it is recommended to restart Windows.
HP Services Tray behaviour:
If HP Services Scan installs the Windows Agent and the device is using an HP Premium and Premium+ Support plan, the tray icon is visible by default. To remove the icon, set the below registry value.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Hewlett-Packard\HP Touchpoint Manager] "HideTrayIcon"="True"
For other plans, HP Services Scan removes the icon by default. To display the icon, set the below registry value.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Hewlett-Packard\HP Touchpoint Manager] "HideTrayIcon"="False"
