Blue Screen Error Report

Introduction

The Blue Screen Errors report in the Analytics module provides information about enrolled devices that encountered blue screen and driver crashes. The report also shows the affected models, the main causes, and patterns over time.

The data is displayed across following sections or widgets:

  • Top Models Affected: A ranked list of device models based on the number of blue screen (BSOD) errors. For each model, the corresponding number of crash instances is shown. This helps you (IT admin) identify models that are more prone to crashes and plan targeted diagnostics.
  • Top Drivers Causing BSODs: A ranked list of system drivers based on the number of occurences associated with blue screen errors. For each driver, the number of crash instances is shown. This enables you to detect faulty or outdated drivers and take corrective actions.
  • Top Bug Check Codes: A visual display of the most common bug check codes recorded during blue screen errors. For each code, the number of times it has triggered a crash is shown. This provides insight into the underlying system-level causes of crashes.
  • BSOD Over Time: A visual representation of blue screen error trends over time. It shows the total number of crash instances and the number of affected devices. This helps to identify the timeframes when crashes occurred most frequently. Using this data, you can track patterns and measure the impact of remediation efforts over time.
Note:

By default, the data is shown for the last 90 days. You can opt to view data for the last 7, 15, or 30 days.

View Device-Level BSOD Details

The lower section of the page provides a detailed, device-level view of Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) incidents in tabular format. By default, the following columns are displayed:

  • Last Signed-In User: The user who last signed into the device.
  • Serial Number: A unique serial number of the device. This is clickable to view additional details about the device.
  • Device Name: The name assigned to the device. For example, PT-1040-G11.
  • Occurrences: The number of BSOD instances recorded on the device.
  • Last Occurrence: The date of the most recent BSOD event. For example, 4 Feb 2024.
Note:

Use the search bar available in each field to filter data by serial number, device name, number of occurrences, or date of the last occurrence.

Filtering the BSOD Data

The Filters feature enables you to narrow down BSOD data based on specific criteria, which are grouped into the following three categories:

  • Time: Select the time period for which BSOD data should be displayed. The supported options are the Last 7, 15, 30, and 90 days. By default, the data is displayed for the last 90 days.
  • Hardware:
    • Model: Filter data by specific device models.
    • Manufacture Year: Narrow results based on the year the device was manufactured.
  • Software:
    • OS Major Version: Filter based on the major version of the operating system. For example, Windows 10, Windows 11.
    • OS Minor Version: Refine results using the minor version of the OS.
    • OS Build Number: Target devices with a specific OS build to isolate compatibility or stability issues.
    • Drivers Causing Crashes: View data for devices where a specific driver has been identified as the cause of a crash.
  • BSOD:
    • Top BSOD Causes: Focus on specific bug check codes or BSOD error types that are contributing to crashes.

Select the filtering criteria and click Apply to view the BSOD based on the specified criteria.

Exporting Data

Click Export to download the report based on the applied filter criteria. After clicking Export, a popup message appears indicating that the download is in progress and the file will be available in the Notification Center of the platform once ready.
