Application Inventory Report

The Application Inventory report provides a centralized overview of all software applications installed across enrolled devices in the organization, along with the different versions of each application. It also provides detailed information, such as application names, version numbers, publishers, and the number of devices on which each application is installed.

This report is useful for IT teams to identify the most frequently used applications, track the number of versions in use, and monitor software distribution across the environment. It supports informed decision-making related to software standardization, version control, license management, migrations, updates, and compliance.

The data is displayed through visual charts and tables to provide high-level insights and detailed breakdowns.

Top Installed Apps

This chart displays a horizontal bar chart showing the most commonly installed applications across devices. The chart is sorted by the number of devices where each application is installed.

Apps with Most Installed Versions

This chart displays applications that have the highest number of distinct versions installed across devices. It helps IT teams to identify version sprawl and inconsistencies within the same application.

This insight helps IT teams standardize software across the organization by identifying apps with too many coexisting versions and take measures, if required. For example, Outlook for Windows" appears with 31 versions, signaling potential inconsistencies that could affect performance.

Note:

Click on an application name to view the version distribution for that app.

Application Table

Below the charts is a detailed table view that provides device-level information for each application. The default columns include:

  • Application Name: The name of the software installed.
  • No. of Devices: The number of devices on which the application is installed.
  • Latest Version: The most recently detected version of the application.
  • Total Versions Installed: The number of unique versions of the application in use across devices.
  • Application Publisher: The vendor or developer of the application, such as Microsoft Corporation or HP Inc.

Use the gear icon, Column Manager, to manage the columns.

This view helps IT teams assess version distribution, detect outdated software, and monitor applications from specific vendors.

Note:

Use the search bar within each column to filter data by application name, version, or publisher.

Filters

Use the Filters panel to narrow down application data based on device attributes and application details. These filters enable IT teams to perform targeted analysis, simplify troubleshooting, and support version standardization across specific groups of devices.

The filter options are grouped into two sections: Devices and Applications:

  • Devices: Shows device-specific details, such as:

    • Model: Filter data by specific device models.
    • Manufacturer: Filter data based on the device manufacturer (e.g., HP, Dell).
    • Manufacture Year: Limit results to devices built in a particular year.
    • OS Version: Select devices with a specific operating system version, such as Windows 10 or Windows 11.
    • Location: Filter results by geographical or organizational location, depending on how the device data is configured.
  • Applications: Shows app-specific details, such as:

    • Application Name: Select a specific application to view details only for that software.
    • Installed Application Version: Choose a particular version of the selected application to analyze version distribution.

After selecting the criteria, click Apply to update the data displayed on the dashboard.

Exporting Data

Click Export to download the report based on the applied filter criteria. After clicking Export, a popup message appears indicating that the download is in progress and the file will be available in the Notification Center of the platform once ready.
