Introduction
When validating an infrastructure component or endpoint in the HP WXP Collaboration Admin Portal, the validation fails and a 504 error message is displayed. A 504 error indicates that a gateway timeout occurred. In this scenario, the gateway is the WXP Collaboration Data Collector. The error occurs when the validation request cannot be completed within the expected time.

This article provides guidance to resolve a Validation Failed error with a 504 status code when validating infrastructure or endpoints in the WXP Collaboration Admin Portal.
Resolution
The 504 error can occur in the following scenarios.
Scenario 1: Broker Connection Is Not Enabled
With the release of the WXP Collaboration Data Collector, infrastructure and endpoint configuration moved to the cloud-based WXP Collaboration Admin Portal. Validation requests are processed through a broker connection between the portal and the collector.
If the broker connection is not enabled for your organization, validation requests cannot be completed. This is indicated by a red infinity symbol with a line through it in the portal.

To enable this capability, contact the owner of your WXP Collaboration installation within your organization. If your organization approves enabling the broker interface, contact WXP Collaboration Support for assistance.
Scenario 2: Underpowered Collector Server
A 504 error can also occur if the server hosting the WXP Collaboration Data Collector is underpowered. In this case, the collector cannot process validation requests before the portal times out.
The collector server should maintain a maximum CPU utilization of 70 percent to allow sufficient overhead for processing spikes.
Minimum Collector Server Requirements
Ensure that the collector server meets the minimum requirements listed below.
CPU: Dual CPUs (2.4 GHz or higher)
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Storage: 80 GB disk space (OS and data)
Network: 1 Gbps network interface
Server Operating System: Windows Server 2019 or later; CentOS 6 or later; RHEL 6 or later
Java: Java 11 (bundled with the installer)
