When the data collector runs under a Windows service accounts, some customers may not be able to install tor uninstall the data collector using the instructions in the Manual Collector Upgrade with Roll-Back – Best Practice article.
Determine if You are Using a Service Account
To check if a data collector is using a service account:
- Open the Services app in Windows.
- Locate the WXP Collaboration Tech Insights Data Collector service.
- Select the service, and then click the Log On tab.

If the Log On tab shows a domain account (for example, domain\Joe) instead of Local System Account, the collector is using a service account.
If you uninstall and reinstall the collector, the service account settings will be lost, and the system will revert to using the Local System Account. This may cause issues, especially if you are using Windows Authentication to monitor backend infrastructure (such as SQL Server databases for Skype or TMS). Additionally, reapplying service account settings may require opening a change request if you do not have direct access.
Upgrade While Retaining the Service Account
To upgrade your collector while keeping the service account intact, follow these steps:
- Download the latest version of the WXPCollaborationCollector using the steps outlined in these instructions.
- In the Services app, stop the WXP Collaboration Tech Insights Data Collector service.
- Go to your WXP Collaboration installation folder, and delete the following files and folders:
- .cache
- .drivers
- .jre
- .libs
- .logs
- .patches
- wxpollaboratiocollector.exe

- Move the new WXPCollaborationcollector.exe file that you downloaded in step 1 to the WXP Collaboration installation folder. The folder structure should now contain the updated executable, but not the folders you just deleted.

- In the Services app, restart the WXP Collaboration Tech Insights Data Collector service. The new version of the collector will automatically recreate the deleted folders.
Verify the Upgrade
Log in to the WXP Collaboration Admin Platform. You should now see that the system is running the upgraded data collector.
