Introduction
The Roles Management feature in the HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP) supports defining, assigning, and managing roles for Admin users within your organization. It plays a key role in maintaining security and operational efficiency by ensuring that users can access only the parts of the platform relevant to their job functions.
The platform includes the following predefined roles:
- IT Admin: Full access to the platform, including user management and settings. This role is applicable for all services.
- Report Admin: View-only access to reporting features, including viewing and managing reports. This role is applicable for Premium or Premium+ Support. Only applicable for services that have reports.
- Device Admin: Permissions to manage and configure devices within the platform.
- Custom Roles: Roles created to meet specific business needs, with tailored permissions.
- Lost Device Admin: This role is used within the HP Wolf Protect and Trace module to allow a user to check the location of a device or to initiate device lock or wipe commands.
Target Audience
Primary audience:
- IT administrators and support personnel who set up and manage the platform (all roles).
Secondary audience:
- IT security personnel who manage access for company applications.
- HP Service Partners who use the platform to manage their customers.
- Internal and external developers who integrate with the platform.
Key Features of Roles Management
-
Predefined and custom roles: The platform offers built-in roles such as IT Admin, Report Admin, and Device Admin, each with specific access rights tailored to different responsibilities within device fleet management. In addition, the platform allows you to create custom roles with granular permissions to suit your organizational needs.
-
Role-based access control (RBAC): Access to platform features is controlled based on assigned roles. This helps improve security and minimize the risk of unauthorized actions. As organizations grow, roles can be consistently applied across teams, regions, or departments to maintain centralized governance.
Use Cases
-
Role-based access control
Scenario: Your organization handles sensitive customer data that must be protected from unauthorized access.
Solution: With roles management, you can assign specific roles to IT employees based on their job functions. For example, only an IT Admin can access all details, while a Report Admin can access only dashboards and reports. This helps comply with data protection regulations and reduces the risk of data breaches. -
User management
Scenario: Your IT team is responsible for onboarding new team members and ensuring they have the right access to various systems and resources.
Solution: Roles management allows you to assign predefined roles to new team members based on their job descriptions, making the onboarding process faster and more efficient.
