Installing HP Insights Windows Application Using MSI Installer

Prev Next

Introduction

The HP Insights Windows Application (also called Windows Agent) for HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP) can also be installed using the MSI installer, which is suitable for scripted or enterprise-wide deployments through tools like Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager. The MSI package includes the HP Insights Windows Application, but does not automatically install additional components, such as the HP Insights Analytics Agent or supporting dependencies. These must be installed separately to enable complete data collection and reporting.

This article outlines the steps to deploy the Windows Agent for WXP using an MSI Installer.

Note: Do not install the MSI version on devices that are already enrolled using the Setup.exe installer.

Installation Packages

The package applications are as follows:

  1. Minimum supported .NET Framework 4.6.2

  2. Microsoft VC++ redistributable package (x86)

  3. HP Insights Application (HPInsights.msi)

    • Microsoft VC++ redistributable package (x86) is a prerequisite for the Workforce Experience Platform.

  4. Microsoft VC++ redistributable (x64)

  5. HP Insights Analytics - Dependencies (HPInsightsAnalyticsDependencies.msi)

  6. HP Insights Analytics Package (HPInsightsAnalytics.msi)

    • Install the Microsoft VC++ Redistributable package (x64), HP Insights Analytics Dependencies, and HP Insights Application in that order.

Installing these packages in this order prevents the HP Insights Analytics Agent from being downloaded during the initial deployment. The VC++ Redistributable applications are required for the deployment of the agent. However, some devices might have an updated version of these applications and will be suitable for deployment.

The Manager Application will also require the Company PIN (also referred to as CPIN).

To obtain the PIN,

  1. Log in to WXP and click Settings > Preferences.

  2. On the Preferences tab, scroll down the Company PIN section and copy the pin.

Post-installation details

Once installed, the Windows Agent will populate the data in the devices list with HW/SW inventory. This is in semi-real time which checks every 15 minutes to send updates. If the Agent is uninstalled from the device, the Agent will also attempt to unenroll from the server side (if it has internet). The devices page will be updated immediately once it sees the unenroll alert. The server will keep the device in the list but mark it as Unenrolled.

The HP Insights Analytics Agent will pull info (much more than the Agent) and upload it to the server once a day after installation. The server has a daily job to process the data and populate the dashboard and charts. Hence there is a delay between the dashboard/charts vs. the devices list.

Note: It is not possible to install the HP Insights Analytics Agent - Dependencies package on non-HP manufactured devices, including Virtual Machines. It enables private API calls to get telemetry from the HP HW component.
