Manually onboarding cloud-connected printers

Prev Next

Introduction

To onboard printers to WXP over the cloud, you’ll need the serial number and product number of each printer you want to onboard. You can onboard up to ten printers manually in a single request.

Target Audience

  • IT administrators who onboard and manage printers.

  • Printer Administrators who onboard and manage printers.

Important

Before a printer can be fully onboarded to WXP through the cloud, you must enable HP cloud connection (known as web services on some printers) on the printer. For more information, see Enabling HP cloud connection/web services on HP printers. This document lists printers by model so you can quickly scan for your printer. Locate your device in the document, then follow the link to the appropriate instructions.

Manually Onboard Printers

To manually onboard printers:

  1. Log in to WXP.

  2. From the left menu of WXP, click Devices > Printers.

  3. On the Printers page, above the printer list, click Add printers. The Add Printers dialog appears.

  4. Click Connect through the cloud.

  5. Click Enter manually. The dialog displays a pane where you can enter identifying information for the first printer you want to onboard.

  6. Enter the Serial Number and Product Number for the printer.

  7. To add another printer, click Add another printer, then repeat Step 4. You can add up to ten printers in a single request.

To remove a printer from the request, click the delete icon () adjacent to that printer.

  1. When you have supplied printer information for all the printers you want to onboard, click Submit.

The WXP portal opens the pending printers tab and displays the printers in the list of pending printers with their onboarding status:

  • Connected: WXP successfully onboarded the printer.

  • Action needed: WXP located the printer on the internet, but it was unable to establish a connection. Typically, this is because HP Cloud Communication (web services) is not enabled on the printer.

  • Error: WXP was unable to contact the printer. The printer may be offline, not powered on, or experiencing another issue.

Once a printer is fully onboarded, it is added to the Ungrouped printers on the Printers tab.

The printer remains in the Pending Printers list with a status of Connected.
