Deprovisioning Devices from HP Wolf Protect and Trace Plan

Prev Next

Introduction

HP Wolf Protect and Trace provides security and tracking capabilities for devices managed in HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP). As part of device lifecycle management, IT administrators might need to remove devices from the Protect and Trace plan when devices are retired, reassigned, replaced, or no longer require tracking.

his article provides guidance to deprovision devices from the HP Wolf Protect and Trace plan.

Before you deprovision a device, it is important understand the difference between enrolled and unenrolled devices

 Term

Description

Enrolled

The device has been added to the HP Workforce Experience portal and has the HP Workforce Experience client installed.

The HP Wolf Protect and Trace plan is available on the device.

Unenrolled

A device can appear in the HP Workforce Experience portal without the HP Workforce Experience client installed.

In this case, the device is treated as an asset, and the HP Wolf Protect and Trace plan is not available on the device.

It is also important to understand the difference between unenrolling a device and deleting a device.

Term

Description

Unenrolling a device

  • If a device is unenrolled, it remains in WXP and continues to be managed as an asset.

  • Devices can be added manually, one at a time, or imported in bulk by using a CSV file.

  • A device can exist in WXP even if the client is not installed on the device. In this case, it is considered unenrolled and treated as an asset in the inventory.

  • The asset life cycle can outlive the device life cycle. As a result, a device can remain in an unenrolled state in the portal even after the HP Workforce Experience client is removed from the device.

Deleting a device

  • If a device is deleted, it is completely removed from WXP and is no longer available for management.

Prerequisites

The device is already enrolled in the HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP) and appears in the Devices page.

Deprovisioning devices

There are two ways to deprovision a device.

Option 1: Unenrolling a device

To deprovision devices by unenrolling them:

  1. Log in to WXP. The Home page is displayed.

  2. From the left menu of WXP, click Devices and select the appropriate Device type. The existing devices are displayed.

  3. Using the checkbox, select the devices that you want to unenroll. When at least one device is selected, the Unenroll option is displayed.

  1. Click Unenroll. The Unenroll device dialog box is displayed.

  1. Follow the instructions in the next prompt

  2. Enter the Security Code and click Unenroll.

After the unenrollment process is complete, the devices still appear in the Devices list and show Ready in the Status column.

Option 2: Deleting devices

To deprovision devices by deleting them:

  1. Log in to WXP. The Home page is displayed.

  2. From the left menu of WXP, click Devices and then select the appropriate Device type. The existing devices are displayed.

  3. Using the checkbox, select the devices that you want to delete. When at least one device is selected, the Delete option is displayed.

  1. Click Delete. The Delete Device dialog box is displayed.

  1. Enter the Security Code and click Delete.

Deleted devices are permanently removed from WXP and their associated data will be lost.

Note:

  • When devices are unenrolled by using the process described in this article, a clean-up process is triggered to disable the HP Wolf Protect and Trace feature on those devices.

  • You cannot unenroll the client simply by uninstalling the HP Workforce Experience client software from the device. Because of the persistence feature in HP Wolf Protect and Trace, the HP Workforce Experience client software can reinstall and re-enroll itself.
