Are Cisco devices in MTR mode supported in WXP Collaboration?
Yes! Since Cisco launched native MTR functionality in select hardware devices in 2023, those endpoints have been supported in WXP Collaboration (then Vyopta).
Are organizations currently using Cisco MTRs in WXP Collaboration?
Yes. Several thousand Cisco MTRs worldwide are actively being monitored in WXP Collaboration. This is one of the fastest growing device segments as many organizations are using MS Teams as their primary meeting platform.
Are there restrictions on which Cisco models are supported?
No. Any Cisco model that supports MTR mode will be supported in WXP Collaboration.
After migrating my Cisco device to MTR mode, what changes in functionality should I expect?
In general, the device will perform exactly as expected, but there are a couple of important things to note.
If your device was in WXP Collaboration prior to switching to MTR mode, it may appear as a new device once registered as an MTR. This is because the process requires a factory reset which generates a new device ID in Cisco’s management systems*. Also, a new device ID is also created in Microsoft’s systems. The device’s historical data will still remain in WXP Collaboration tied to the “old” endpoint. The "new" endpoint will function correctly even if it’s dual registered with Microsoft and Control Hub.
Note that MS Teams does not offer real time, in-call status or quality metrics. Call records will appear shortly after a call ends but will not be available while a call is in progress. Note that this is a limitation of the meeting platform, not the device itself.
My Cisco endpoints are being monitored locally for WXP Collaboration, will that still work after switching to MTR mode?
Yes! The local endpoint monitor will still work and provide the same level of functionality for up/down events, peripheral status, and the like. The only difference is, as described above, real time in-call status changes won’t be available.
My Cisco endpoints are providing real time occupancy and people-count data for Space Insights, will that continue to work after switching to MTR mode?
Yes! Your device will provide the same level of data for real time occupancy and people counting metrics.
Are new endpoint models/modes tested for support in WXP Collaboration?
Definitely. Since joining forces with HP, our hands-on testing capabilities have become much more robust as we share the same (well-equipped) lab environment with HP Poly. MTR mode was tested thoroughly on multiple Cisco models prior to rolling out support.
* Future roadmap support is planned to identify device “sameness” across diverging unique identifiers and multiple vendors to maintain a single device record in WXP Collaboration.
