Introduction
The BIOS Update Insights report in HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP) helps administrators monitor BIOS update status across managed devices. Use this report to identify devices that are missing BIOS updates, devices that are missing critical BIOS updates, devices with unknown update status, and device models that have multiple BIOS versions.
The enhanced report uses SoftPaq Recommendation Service (SRS) data for HP devices. SRS provides more current and accurate BIOS recommendations than Windows Update data, which can lag by three to four weeks after the vendor release. The report also supports near real-time visibility with a one-hour refresh interval and on-demand refresh, where available.
The report helps IT teams reduce exposure to security vulnerabilities and performance issues by continuously monitoring firmware status and helping administrators plan targeted remediation.
Report benefits
Provides a near real-time snapshot of device firmware status across the fleet.
Helps administrators identify devices with outdated firmware and devices that are missing critical BIOS updates.
Supports rapid adoption of the latest approved BIOS versions across the fleet.
Helps reduce security risk by giving administrators visibility into BIOS compliance status.
Supports targeted remediation by device model, BIOS status, or number of days overdue.
Helps administrators standardize BIOS versions across similar device models.
Helps track whether BIOS update compliance is improving over time.
Common use cases
Identify devices that are affected by a high-risk BIOS vulnerability, such as devices missing a critical BIOS version for more than 90 days.
Prioritize remediation for devices with the longest outstanding critical BIOS updates.
Continuously monitor the fleet to detect devices with outdated or unapproved BIOS versions.
Filter devices by BIOS update status, device model, or other widget data to plan targeted remediation.
Review BIOS version differences across the same device model before planning updates.
Accessing the report
To view the report:
Log in to the WXP portal. The Home page is displayed.
From the left menu WXP, click the Analytics > Modern Reports. The existing reports are displayed.
Select Bios Update Insights from the reports list. Use the Filters option to narrow the report data.

BIOS Updates by Device
The BIOS Updates by Device widget shows a snapshot of BIOS compliance status across the device fleet. Use this widget to quickly understand how many devices are missing updates, up to date, or have unknown update status.

Data point | Description |
Missing Critical updates | Shows the number of devices that are missing critical BIOS updates. These devices should be reviewed first. |
All Missing Updates | Shows the total number of devices that are missing BIOS updates. This includes critical and non-critical updates. |
Up to date | Shows the number of devices that have the latest BIOS updates installed. |
Unknown | Shows the number of devices where the BIOS update status cannot be identified. |
If Missing Critical updates shows a high number, review those devices first because they may have important BIOS updates pending. If Unknown shows a high number, investigate why WXP cannot identify the BIOS update status for those devices.
Missing BIOS Updates Over Time
The Missing BIOS Updates Over Time chart shows how the number of devices with missing BIOS updates changes over time. This trend helps administrators understand whether BIOS compliance is improving or getting worse. The chart can be used for week-over-week or month-on-month trend analysis, depending on the available date range.

Trend line | Description |
Missing BIOS Updates | Shows the number of devices that are missing any BIOS update. |
Missing Critical BIOS Updates | Shows the number of devices that are missing critical BIOS updates. |
The horizontal axis shows the date, and the vertical axis shows the number of devices. A downward trend means that fewer devices are missing BIOS updates, while an upward trend means that more devices are missing BIOS updates.
Use this data to compare Missing BIOS Updates with Missing Critical BIOS Updates to understand critical “missing updates.” If the number of critical updates does not reduce over time, review the affected devices and plan remediation.
Note:
The data refreshes every 24 hours
The chart does not change when page filters are applied.
Days Overdue for Critical BIOS Updates
The Days Overdue for Critical BIOS Updates widget shows how long devices have been missing critical BIOS updates. Use this widget to prioritize devices based on how long the critical BIOS update has been pending.

Days overdue | Description |
>90 days | Devices that are missing critical BIOS updates for more than 90 days. |
61-90 days | Devices that are missing critical BIOS updates for 61 to 90 days. |
31-60 days | Devices that are missing critical BIOS updates for 31 to 60 days. |
<30 days | Devices that are missing critical BIOS updates for less than 30 days. |
Devices in the >90 days and 61-90 days categories should be reviewed first because they have been overdue for the longest time.
Devices in the <30 days category are more recent and can be reviewed after older overdue devices.
Unique BIOS Versions by Model
The Unique BIOS Versions by Model widget shows how many BIOS versions are found for each device model. Use this widget to identify models where BIOS versions are not standardized across devices.

Each row shows a device model.
The Unique Versions value shows the number of BIOS versions found for that model.
A higher number means that the same device model has more BIOS version variation.
A lower number means that the BIOS version is more consistent across that device model.
If a model has many unique BIOS versions, use the device details table to identify the affected devices and plan targeted remediation.
Device details table
The device details table shows device-level BIOS update information. Use this table to identify the exact devices that need review or remediation. The table can also help administrators drill down to the BIOS section in the device details page.
The table includes columns such as:
Column | Description |
Last Signed-In User | The last user who signed in to the device. |
Serial Number | The device serial number. |
Device Name | The device name. |
Device Model | The device model. |
Device Manufacturer | The device manufacturer. |
Device Platform ID | The platform identifier used to match BIOS recommendations. |
BIOS Manufacturer | The BIOS manufacturer, where available. |
Installed BIOS version | The BIOS version installed on the device. |
BIOS status | Indicates whether the installed BIOS version is up to date, missing an update, missing a critical update, or unknown. |
Latest Available Bios Version | The latest available BIOS version for the device model, where available. |
Latest Critical Available Bios Version | The latest critical BIOS version for the device model, where available. |
Note: Additional columns may be available when you scroll horizontally.
Searching and filtering
Use the search fields in the table to find a device by values such as serial number, device name, device model, or manufacturer.
Use filters or selected widget data to focus on a specific group of devices, such as devices missing critical BIOS updates.
Select a device to open the BIOS section in the device details page. The device details page shows the installed BIOS version, BIOS status, latest available version, and latest critical version.
Use pagination at the bottom of the table to move between result pages.
Export
Use the Export feature to download the report data for offline review or follow-up.
Recommended workflow
Review BIOS Updates by Device to understand the overall BIOS update status.
Check Missing Critical updates to identify the number of high-priority devices.
Review Missing BIOS Updates Over Time to understand whether missing updates are increasing or decreasing.
Use Days Overdue for Critical BIOS Updates to prioritize devices that have been overdue the longest.
Use Unique BIOS Versions by Model to identify device models with BIOS version variation.
Apply filters or select widget data points to focus on devices that need immediate review.
Review the device details table to find the exact devices that need follow-up action.
Open device details to review installed BIOS status and available BIOS versions.
Use Export to download the report data, if required.
Notes:
Prioritize devices that are missing critical BIOS updates
Review devices that have been overdue for more than 90 days first.
Investigate devices with Unknown BIOS update status.
Use model-level BIOS version data to plan targeted remediation instead of applying broad updates without review.
Use the device details table before taking remediation action.
Export the report when the data must be shared with support, operations, or remediation teams.
