Installing WXP Insights Agent Using ZIP Package (.msi)

Introduction

The WXP Insights agent for HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP) can also be installed using the ZIP Package (.msi), which is suitable for scripted or enterprise-wide deployments through tools like Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager.

The MSI package includes the WXP Insights agent, but does not automatically install additional components, such as the WXP Insights Analytics agent or supporting dependencies. These must be installed separately to enable complete data collection and reporting.

This article outlines the steps to deploy the WWXP Insights agent using a ZIP Package (.msi).

Note: Do not install the MSI version on devices that are already enrolled using the setup installer.

Installation Packages

The package applications are as follows:

Minimum supported .NET Framework 4.7.2
WXP Insights agent WXPInsights.msi downloaded from x86 ZIP Package (.msi)
- Microsoft VC++ redistributable package (x86) is a prerequisite for WXPinsights.msi to function on Intel-based devices.
WXP Insights agent WXPInsights.msi downloaded from Arm64 ZIP Package (.msi)
- Microsoft VC++ redistributable (Arm64) is a prerequisite for WXPInsights.msi to function on Arm-based devices
Microsoft VC++ redistributable (x64)
WXP Insights Analytics - Dependencies WXPInsightsAnalyticsDependencies(.msi)
WXP Insights Analytics Package WXPInsightsAnalytics(.msi)
- Install the Microsoft VC++ Redistributable package (x64), WXP Insights Analytics Dependencies, and WXP Insights Application in that order.

Note: For WXP Insights Agent versions 5.26.114, the executable file for Arm devices is renamed to WXPInsights-arm64.zip

Installing these packages in this order prevents the WXP Insights Analytics agent from being downloaded during the initial deployment. The VC++ Redistributable applications are required for the deployment of the agent. However, some devices might have an updated version of these applications and will be suitable for deployment.

The Manager Application will also require the Company PIN (also referred to as CPIN). To obtain the PIN:

Log in to WXP. The Home page is displayed.
From the left menu of WXP, click Settings > Preferences. The Preferences tab is displayed.
In the Preferences tab, scroll down the Company PIN section and copy the pin.

Installation Package Details

The Windows Application (ZIP Package (.msi)) consists of the following separate installation packages, with each package having its independent version, prerequisites (as visible in the Add or Remove programs on a Windows device), and a Windows Task Scheduler task:

Note: For WXP Insights agent versions 5.26.114, the executable file for intel is renamed to WXPInsights.zip The following file names are also updated:
HPInsights.msi → WXPInsights.msi
HPInsightsAnalytics.msi- > WXPInsightsAnalytics.msi
HPInsightsAnalyticsDependencies.msi → WXPInsightsAnalyticsDependencies.msi

Once installed, the agent will populate the data in the devices list with HW/SW inventory. This is in semi-real time which checks every 15 minutes to send updates. If the Agent is uninstalled from the device, the Agent will also attempt to unenroll from the server side (if it has internet). The devices page will be updated immediately once it sees the unenroll alert. The server will keep the device in the list but mark it as Unenrolled.

The WXP Insights Analytics agent will pull info (much more than the agent) and upload it to the server once a day after installation. The server has a daily job to process the data and populate the dashboard and charts. Hence there is a delay between the dashboard/charts vs. the devices list.

Note: It is not possible to install the WXP Insights Analytics agent - Dependencies package on non-HP manufactured devices, including Virtual Machines. It enables private API calls to get telemetry from the HP HW component.
