Overview of Connectors

Introduction

The Connectors feature of HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP) helps to connect the platform with third-party systems and tools. Connectors act as bridge that support data sharing, process automation, and communication between different systems. This allows organizations to extend the platform’s capabilities while continuing to use their existing tools.

Using connectors, organizations can improve compatibility between systems, reduce manual work, and increase efficiency. The platform supports a growing set of pre-built and customizable connectors to support various business needs.

Note: Integrations are visible to all Workforce Experience Platform (WXP) users; however, you must be a Connector Admin or Partner Admin to configure and manage integrations.

Use Cases

Some of the popular use cases are:

  1. Power BI and Tableau integration for data analytics
  • Scenario: Your organization wants to integrate operational data from the Workforce Experience platform into Power BI and Tableau for advanced visual analytics and reporting.
  • Solution: Use the Power BI and Tableau connectors to enable automated data extraction and synchronization. This allows your analytics teams to generate real-time dashboards and make data-driven decisions without having to rely on manual data transfers.
  1. Automating notifications and tasks with power automate
  • Scenario: Your HR team wants to automate onboarding tasks and send notifications when a new employee is added to the system.
  • Solution: The Power Automate connector triggers workflows based on real-time data from the Workforce Experience platform. Notifications, task creation, and cross-platform updates are handled automatically, improving response time and reducing administrative workload.
  1. Device and performance monitoring with Splunk
  • Scenario: Your Infrastructure team wants to monitor device health and application performance using industry-standard tools.
  • Solution: Integrating Splunk through the respective connector enables real-time telemetry from the Workforce Experience platform. This is useful to detect, troubleshoot, and resolve performance issues faster.

Authentication

Authentication Method

Azure Active Directory (AAD) authentication is not supported for connector integrations. HPID is the only supported authentication method for API access.

API Authentication Requirements

  • API-level access requires the Partner Admin, IT Admin, or Report Admin role.
  • Connector Admin does not have API authentication rights.

Best Practice: Create a dedicated service account for API authentication with one of the listed API-enabled roles, separate from the Connector Admin account.

WXP User Creation

When providing an email for the new user ensure that email is not associated with another user that has access to another tenant(s)

The Workforce Experience Platform (WXP) user must ensure their email is only associated with one account associated or tenant. If there is a Switch Account option visible when clicking on the Profile icon in the top right corner of WXP, this means a user has access to multiple accounts and you must create a new user.

If a user has access to multiple accounts, please follow the steps below to create a new user under the same account:

  1. Navigate to the Accounts tab, select Invite User, and enter the user's email address.

  1. Choose the appropriate IDP — either HPID or AAD, depending on the email domain being used.

  1. Assign the following roles to the user:
    • IT Admin
    • Connector Admin

  1. Once the user is created, an invitation email will be sent to them. The user should follow the instructions in the email to complete the setup process.

Before Activating a Reporting Connector

The following prerequisites apply to reporting connectors that require HP authorization, including Power BI, Tableau, Splunk, and Power Automate.

Before You Begin

  1. Ensure the designated Single User account has been created and configured and Use incognito tab for portal sign in
  2. Navigate to the connector and verify the Authorize status.
  • If the Authorize indicator is gray, proceed to the next step.
  • If the Authorize indicator is green, click Disconnect and wait until the status changes to gray before proceeding.

For first-time authorization, the connector should be in a non-authorized state (gray). If it is already authorized (green), disconnect it first and then re-authorize using the correct account.

Authorize HP

  1. Click Connect.
  2. An HPID authentication window will open.
  3. Sign in using the designated Single User account.

Note: This account should be the same Single User account associated with the tenant whose data will be accessed.

  1. Complete the HP authentication process.
  2. After successful authentication, the Authorize indicator will turn green.
  3. Continue with the connector-specific activation and configuration steps.

Note: The Single User account requirement applies specifically to the Authorize HP step. Once authorization is completed successfully, activation and connector configuration may be performed by another authorized user if applicable.

Why Use a Single User Account for Authorization?

After successful authentication, the connector authorization is associated with the tenant information of the account used during the Authorize HP step.

Why is this important?

During report requests, the system verifies that the tenant associated with the authorization token matches the tenant for which data is being requested.

If authorization is performed using an account associated with a multiple tenants, shared accounst, or incorrectly configured account, the generated token may not match the intended tenant. This can result in:

  • Tenant validation failures
  • Report retrieval failures
  • Data transfer failures
  • Authentication errors
  • Missing or incomplete report data
