Introduction

Slack is a collaboration platform that supports communication, meetings, file sharing, and app integration in a unified workspace. Integrate Slack with HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP) to receive workflow notifications directly in Slack channels.

This article provides step-by-step guidance to integrate WXP with Slack.

Note: This feature is available with the WXP Pro and Elite plans.

Key Features

  • Seamless Integration: Connect Slack channels to receive WXP workflow notifications.

  • Enhanced Collaboration: Centralize WXP workflow notifications in Slack so that users can respond promptly.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure that:

  • You have the Connector Admin role in WXP to manage integrations and connectors.

  • You have a Slack administrator account and a workspace with one or more public channels.

For additional information about roles and permissions, see the Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) section in Authentication.

Activating the Slack Connector

  1. Log in to WXP. The Home page is displayed.

  2. From the left menu of WXP,  click Integrations. The Integrations page is displayed.

  3. On the Integrations page, locate Slack and then click Connect. The Slack dialog box is displayed.

  4. In the Slack dialog box, click Connect.

  5. In the dialog box, enter the name of your Slack workspace, and then click Continue.

  6. Sign in with your Slack credentials using your preferred authentication method.

  7. In the dialog box, select the Slack workspace that you want to connect.

  8. Review the permissions requested by the HP-WXP application, and then click Allow.

The Slack connector requires the following permissions:

    • chat:write: Sends messages as @HP-WXP.

    • chat:write.customize: Sends messages as @HP-WXP with a customized username and avatar.

    • chat:write.public: Sends messages to public channels where @HP-WXP is not a member.

    • channels:read: Retrieves basic information about public channels in a workspace.

Note: The warning message This app is not approved by Slack might appear. You can continue because HP does not plan to list the application in the Slack Marketplace.

  9. To verify that the permissions were granted, open your Slack workspace and confirm that HP-WXP appears under Apps in the navigation menu. On the Integrations page in WXP, the Slack connector card displays Connected in green.

  10. On the Slack connector card, click Configure.

  1. Select one or more Slack channels to receive WXP workflow notifications. Use the search bar to find a specific channel, or click the dropdown list to view all available channels.

Note: You can configure workflow notifications only for public Slack channels. Private channels are not supported.

  2. After selecting the desired channels, click Save.

  3. The Slack connector is connected, and the selected channels are available for workflow notification configuration.

Configuring Workflow Notifications

After configuring the connector, configure a workflow to send notifications to Slack channels.

Prerequisites

  • You have the IT Admin role in WXP to configure a workflow in Workflows.

Procedure

  1. From the left menu of WXP, click Labs > Try Workflow.

  2. When a configured workflow is triggered, a notification appears in the connected Slack channel.

Each workflow notification in the selected Slack channels includes:

  • A title identifying the message as a WXP Workflow notification

  • The workflow name

  • The date and time when the workflow was completed

  • Device details, including the number of devices completed, canceled, failed, and not processed

The following example shows a WXP workflow notification in a Slack channel:

Managing the Slack Integration

You can remove individual Slack channels or disconnect the Slack connector.

Important: WXP protects notification settings used by workflows with a Live or Scheduled status.

Depending on your assigned roles, WXP may prevent you from removing a channel or disconnecting the Slack connector when an active workflow uses the channel:

  • If you have both the Connector Admin and IT Admin roles, a dialog box lists the active workflows that use the channel and prevents you from removing the channel.

  • If you have only the Connector Admin role, a confirmation message instructs you to contact your IT Admin and verify that no active workflows use the channel before disconnecting.

Removing a Slack Channel

  1. On the Integrations page, locate to the Slack connector, and then click Configure.

  2. For the channel that you want to remove, click the X icon next to the channel name.

  3. After removing the selected channels, click Save.

Disconnecting the Slack Connector

  1. On the Integrations page, locate the Slack connector.

  2. Click Disconnect.

Troubleshooting Tips

  1. Scenario: A new Slack channel does not appear in the connector configuration.

Cause: The Slack channel might be private.

Solution: Private Slack channels are not supported and do not appear in the dropdown. To receive WXP workflow notifications, use a public Slack channel.

  2. Scenario: I cannot view the Slack connector.

Cause: Your current WXP plan might not support the Slack connector. The Pro or Elite plan is required to view and manage the connector.

Solution: Upgrade your WXP plan to the Pro or Elite tier.
