Introduction
The Carbon Footprint report in the Analytics module of the HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP) helps you understand the carbon impact of your HP PC fleet. It displays the estimated lifetime carbon emissions for all devices.
The report organizes this information by device lifecycle stage. You can also view the data by product type, country, and trends over time. All emissions are measured in kg CO₂ (kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent).
Accessing the report
Log in to the WXP portal. The Home page is displayed.
From the left menu WXP, click the Analytics > Modern Reports. The existing reports are displayed.
Select Carbon Footprint from the report list.

Note: The data in this report updates once a day.
Viewing Carbon Emissions by Lifecycle Stage
Shows a visual representation of the total carbon emissions across four device lifecycle stages:
Production
Use
Distribution
End of Life
Viewing Fleet Quantity
Shows a visual representation of the total number of devices per country, ordered by top countries. This helps show the geographic distribution of the current fleet.
Understanding Carbon Emissions Over Time
Shows the monthly trend of emissions in kg CO₂, supporting long-term analysis of overall carbon emissions.
The data points in the chart are calculated based on when devices are enrolled in WXP. The full carbon emissions for all four lifecycle stages are included at the time the device is added to the chart. These emissions do not accumulate in subsequent months.
Viewing Device Model Table
Displays device model variations within each country along with their corresponding carbon emissions.
The table supports filtering using search for the following:
Device Model
Country
Device SKU
Exporting data: Data can be exported in CSV format.
Calculation of Carbon Data
This calculation is based on the four device lifecycle stages listed under Carbon Emissions by Lifecycle Stage.
Production: Represents the average factory emissions associated with manufacturing the platform SKU.
Distribution: Represents the average shipment-related emissions calculated based on the destination country.
Utilization: Represents the estimated lifetime emissions from electricity usage of the fleet. The calculation includes:
Energy Star rating based on the device operating in an optimal power efficiency configuration.
Estimated monthly usage hours.
Country-level average carbon intensity (based on the mix of energy sources such as coal, gas, renewable energy, and others). For example, a country’s energy mix may include:
40% coal
30% natural gas
30% renewable or nuclear energy
Disposal (End of life): Represents the estimated emissions associated with the end-of-life disposal process.
Utilization formula = Estimated monthly usage hours × Energy Star kWh estimate × average carbon intensity (kg CO₂ per kWh).
For example:
Device estimated usage: 120 hours per month
Energy Star annual energy estimate: 60 kWh per year → 0.00685 kWh per hour
Country carbon intensity: 0.4 kg CO₂/kWh
Calculation:
120 × 0.00685 × 0.4 = 0.329 kg CO₂ per month
Note: This estimate is based on the country’s average energy grid and may differ from emissions associated with a user’s specific power provider or energy source. This calculation does not include:
External peripheral devices
Network equipment
Customer-specific electricity providers
Understanding the relationship to the Sustainability Report
The Sustainability Report displays power consumption for select HP devices, not carbon footprint.
Actual device usage depends on workload and power settings, which can vary. As a result, actual power consumption may differ from the Energy Star estimate used in the Carbon Footprint Report.
In addition, the Carbon Footprint Report factors in country-level carbon intensity based on the energy mix and is not solely dependent on power consumption.
