Introduction
License Lens is a report within HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP) that helps IT administrators and software procurement teams connect software usage data directly to license costs.
This report enables users to:
Identify unused or under-utilized software licenses
Quantify potential cost savings
Make informed license reclamation and renewal decisions
The Report provides configurable application monitoring, intuitive filtering, time-range analysis, and exportable insights.
Accessing the Report
Log in to the WXP. The Home page is displayed.
From the left menu, click Analytics.
Click License Lens from the Modern Reports tab.
Adding Applications for Monitoring
Access License Lens in WXP. The License Lens page displays applications previously configured in the Applications View.
Click Add application. An Add Application dialog box is displayed.
Add the following details:
Application Name: Search for and select the application to monitor.
Billing Cycle: Select either Annual or Monthly.
License Renewal Date: Enter a renewal date using the calendar icon.
License Cost: Enter the cost per license.
Currency: Select the applicable currency. USD is selected by default.
Click Next. The Configure Usage section is displayed in the same dialog box:
Minimum Usage Threshold (Hours): Define the minimum number of usage hours required to justify retaining the license.
Usage Monitoring Method: Select one of the following:
Time apps is in focus: Indicates the total time the app window was active.
Total app runtime: Total time the app is open, regardless of active use.
Click Add.
After saving the configuration, the application appears in the main dashboard.
Viewing the License Dashboard - All Apps View
The landing page of the License Lens is the Dashboard, showing the following information:
Annual Potential Savings Across Apps: Displays the total potential savings across all monitored applications based on the selected usage thresholds. The default time range is set as Last 90 Days.
Top Annual Potential Savings by Apps: Displays a bar chart of the applications generating the highest potential savings within the selected time range. Each application is represented by a vertical bar proportional to its savings.
All Apps Usage Details (tabular columns): The data is displayed in a tabular format with the following searchable fields:
Serial Number: The serial number of the device.
Device Name: The assigned name of the device.
Last Signed-In User: The use who last signed into the device.
Minimum Usage Threshold Hours: Usage hours threshold of the corresponding apps from the configuration.
Usage Hours: Represents the usage hours threshold from the app configuration.
Usage Level: Select from the following options:
No Usage
Below Threshold
Above Threshold
Most Recent Use: Select the date from the calendar icon.
Viewing the License Dashboard - Individual App View
From the main view, click on an Application Name to access the individual view of the selected app. It provides detailed insights for a selected application.
The default time range is the Last 90 Days.
Annual Potential Savings: Displays total potential savings and device usage from reclaimable or underutilized licenses for the selected application.
Annual Estimated License Costs by Usage Level: Displays the savings breakdown by usage category for the selected application.
Single App Usage Details View: Displays a detailed grid view of application usage, device-level usage, cost information, and licensing details.
The data is displayed in a tabular format with the following searchable fields:
Serial Number: The serial number of the device.
Device Name: The assigned name of the device.
Last Signed-In User: The use who last signed into the device.
Usage Hours: The amount of time spent by each on the app.
Usage Level: Select from the following options:
No Usage
Below Threshold
Above Threshold
Most Recent Use: Select the date from the calendar icon.
Exporting Data
All report data can be exported in CSV format.
