CMS - API Account Password Expiry

Prev Next

Introduction

Cisco Meeting Server (CMS) provisions new user accounts with a default password aging policy. By default, passwords expire after 180 days. As a result, service accounts used for integrations, such as the WXP Collaboration service account (vyopta_svc), must have their passwords updated twice each year.

If the password for the service account expires, WXP Collaboration Data Collectors cannot collect data from CMS, and Call Detail Records (CDRs) may be lost. CMS (formerly Acano) does not provide for onboard persistent storage for past CDR events.

To avoid interruptions in data collection, administrators must extend the password expiration duration in CMS.

Extending Default Expiration of Password

If your corporate service account policies allow it, extend the default password expiration duration before creating the WXP Collaboration service account.

  1. Log in to the CMS command line interface using an administrator account.

  2. Enter the following command to change the password expiration rule:

    user rule password_age NNNN

Where NNNN represents the number of days before a password expires.

  3. For example, to set the password expiration period to 1825 days (approximately five years), enter:

    user rule password_age 1825

This command updates the default password aging rule for accounts that will be newly created.

Extending the Expiration for an Existing Service Account

If the vyopta_svc account has already been created, extend the password duration using the following steps.

  1. Log in to the CMS command line interface using an administrator account.

  2. Update the password aging rule:

    user rule password_age NNNN
  3. Reset the password for the service account:

    passwd vyopta_svc
  4. When prompted, confirm your administrator password.

  5. Re-enter the existing password for the vyopta_svc account.

The password does not need to change. Re-entering the same password refreshes the expiration duration.

Note: If you choose to change the password instead of re-entering the existing password, you must also:

  • Update the password in the Admin Portal of WXP Collaboration.

  • Validate the infrastructure to ensure data collection continues without interruption.
