Introduction
This FAQ provides answers to common questions about Smart Refresh in HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP). It covers refresh recommendations and urgency, device catalogs, refresh strategies, supported devices, exports, budget planning, and data requirements.
1. What Is Smart Refresh?
Smart Refresh helps organizations make informed device replacement decisions. It provides refresh urgency assessments, replacement recommendations, predefined and custom refresh strategies, customer-defined catalogs, budget-based planning, and reporting capabilities.
2. How Does the Refresh Urgency Model Work?
Smart Refresh uses a scoring methodology to identify devices that should be prioritized for replacement. The model evaluates multiple factors to determine refresh urgency across the device estate.
3. What Is a Customer-Defined Catalog?
A customer-defined catalog allows organizations to upload and use their own approved device inventory as the basis for replacement recommendations.
4. What Device Catalogs Can I Use?
Use the default HP catalog.
Select a previously uploaded catalog.
Upload a new catalog.
5. Why Isn't a Device Appearing in Replacement Recommendations?
The device may not exist in the selected catalog or may not meet the requirements defined by the selected refresh strategy.
6. What Are Refresh Strategies?
Refresh strategies define how devices are evaluated and prioritized for replacement. They help organizations align refresh decisions with business objectives, budget constraints, and deployment standards.
7. What Predefined Strategies Are Available?
Smart Refresh provides predefined strategies for common refresh planning scenarios. You can use these strategies as provided or use them as starting points for customization.
8. Can I Create a Custom Refresh Strategy?
Yes. You can create and save custom refresh strategies based on your organization's business requirements.
9. Can I Compare Multiple Refresh Strategies?
Yes. You can evaluate and compare different strategies to determine the most appropriate refresh approach for your organization.
10. How Are Replacement Recommendations Generated?
Smart Refresh uses the selected device catalog, refresh strategy, and refresh urgency assessment to identify appropriate replacement devices.
11. Can I Restrict Recommendations to Approved Device Models?
Yes. Use a customer-defined catalog to limit replacement recommendations to approved corporate devices.
12. What Information Can I Export?
You can export refresh recommendations, refresh plans, device assessments, and supporting data for additional analysis and reporting.
13. What Export Formats Are Available?
You can use the downloadable report formats available in the Smart Refresh workflow.
14. Which Operating Systems Does Smart Refresh Support?
Smart Refresh currently supports Windows devices only.
15. Are macOS Devices Supported?
No. macOS devices are not currently supported.
16. Are Linux Devices Supported?
No. Linux devices are not currently supported.
17. Are Virtual Machines Supported?
No. Virtual machines (VMs) are not supported.
18. Why Am I Not Seeing Refresh Recommendations?
Verify that:
Eligible devices are available in the selected dataset.
A valid device catalog is selected.
The selected strategy contains the required configuration.
19. Why Do My Results Change When I Change Refresh Strategies?
Different strategies use different prioritization criteria and business objectives. These differences can affect refresh urgency assessments and recommended replacement devices.
20. Can Smart Refresh Recommendations Be Overridden?
No. Smart Refresh recommendations cannot currently be overridden.
21. How Often Are Recommendations Recalculated?
Refresh recommendations are recalculated every 24 hours or when planning inputs change, such as the device catalog, refresh strategy, budget constraints, or prioritization criteria.
This helps keep recommendations aligned with the current device population and planning assumptions.
22. Can I Filter Results by Country, Business Unit, or Device Group?
No. Filtering by device groups, location, or business units is not currently supported.
23. Does Smart Refresh Require a Customer-Defined Catalog?
No. You can use the default device catalog available in Smart Refresh.
A customer-defined catalog is recommended when your organization wants replacement recommendations based on approved corporate device standards or region-specific device availability.
24. How Are Budget Constraints Used in Refresh Planning?
Budget constraints can be included in refresh strategies to balance device refresh requirements with available funding.
Smart Refresh evaluates refresh candidates and prioritizes devices based on refresh urgency, business impact, and the selected planning criteria. The device refresh list is adjusted to fit within the defined budget.
25. Can I Save and Reuse Refresh Strategies?
Yes. You can save and reuse custom refresh strategies. This helps apply consistent refresh planning criteria across reporting periods and compare results by using the same planning criteria.
26. What Data Does Smart Refresh Require to Generate Recommendations?
Smart Refresh requires device inventory and endpoint telemetry data from supported Windows devices to generate recommendations.
Additional inputs, such as device catalogs, refresh strategies, planning assumptions, and budget constraints, can further refine recommendations and improve planning accuracy.
