Supporting People Count Sensors in Space Insights module of WXP Collaboration

Prev Next

Introduction

Space Insights in WXP Collaboration supports ingesting data  from third-party people count sensors. This capability helps organizations collect room utilization data for workspaces that do not have video conferencing endpoints, such as focus rooms and small huddle spaces, thereby extending occupancy tracking to more workspaces in the organization.

After a sensor is mapped to a room, the sensor data contributes to the utilization metrics for that room in Space Insights.

Currently, the supported sensor vendor is Kontakt.io.

Adding Sensors to WXP Collaboration

To use people count sensors with Space Insights, an administrator must first add and authorize a integration with the deployed sensor platform such as Kontakt on the Infrastructure page.

After the sensor has been integrated , the admin portal displays a Sensors page that lists the sensor devices deployed in the customer sensor platform.

Mapping Sensors to Rooms

The administrator must then manually map each sensor to the appropriate room in Space Insights. To map sensors to rooms, the follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the Admin Portal of WXP Collaboration.

  2. Go to the Sensors page and download the CSV file that contains the available sensors. The available sensors are displayed from the integrated Sensor Portal.

  3. In the Sensors CSV file, locate the EXCHANGERESOURCEID column.

  4. Go to the Spaces page and download the CSV file that contains the available spaces.

  5. To create the sensor to room mapping, identify the correct room resource ID from the Spaces CSV file and copy it to the EXCHANGERESOURCEID column in the Sensors CSV file.

  6. Save the updated Sensors CSV file.

  7. Upload the updated CSV file on the Sensors page.

  8. Wait 24 to 48 hours for processing and validate that the mappings are correct.

Once sensors are mapped to rooms, people count data from the sensors will populate applicable metrics for those rooms in Space Insights.

Updating an Existing Mapping

If a sensor is moved to a different room, the mapping must be updated in the Sensors CSV file and uploaded again.

To update a mapping:

  1. Download the Sensors CSV file from the Sensors page.

  2. Locate the sensor that was moved.

  3. Replace the existing resource ID with the resource ID of the new room.

  4. Save the file.

  5. Upload the updated file on the Sensors page.

The system preserves mapping history based on the timestamp of the mapping change.

Note:

  • A sensor can be mapped to only one room at a time.

  • Sensor data populates metrics only from the time of mapping onward.

  • Historical data is not backfilled for time periods before the mapping was created.

  • The mapping history between sensors and rooms is preserved over time.

  • Sensors are commonly used for rooms without endpoints, but they can also be used for rooms with endpoints if people count is not otherwise available.
