Introduction
The Printers module of HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP) supports different levels of visibility and manageability depending on the printer model, firmware, and onboarding method.
This article helps you to understand whether a printer can be monitored through Print Fleet Proxy, directly onboarded through cloud services, or partially managed.
Cloud-managed printers are directly onboarded to WXP through the cloud by using the printer serial number and product number. HP cloud connection, also known as web services on some printers, must be enabled before cloud onboarding can be completed.
Partially managed printers can be monitored in WXP, but do not support all management actions, such as configuration, security, or firmware updates.
Printers monitored through Print Fleet Proxy are added to WXP through HP Web Jetadmin and Print Fleet Proxy to show basic printer information, such as status and supplies data. Using the Print Fleet Proxy service, devices can be monitored based on the available OEM Management Information Base (MIB), regardless of the manufacturer. This support is useful for tracking online/offline status and supplies data.
Note:
Non-HP printers refer to Print Fleet Proxy status only, and available details vary by manufacturer. For non-HP printers, only printer status can be viewed.
The printer connectivity status will reflect the status of the proxy. If the proxy is online, the printer shows online, and the same is true for offline, irrespective of the actual state of the printer.
For FutureSmart 5 printers, WXP Print supports direct cloud onboarding and device manageability, including configuration, security, and firmware updates.
Supported Devices List
Refer to this file to identify common printer models that can be onboarded through both Direct connect and proxy. The list also helps you understand the level of management available for each printer.
This list https://kaas.hpcloud.hp.com/pdf-public/pdf_2788030_en-US-1.pdf are printers that can be connected via WJA and Proxy in WXP. However, this file represents printers that can be managed/updated in WXP. Not all WJA/Proxy connected printers are manageable in WXP.
Note: Newly released and legacy FutureSmart 5 printers will continue to be added to the portfolio over time.
