Introduction
The HP Insights Agent is a component of the HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP). It is designed to run quietly in the background without affecting device performance.
This article explains how the HP Insights Agent uses system resources, such as CPU, memory, and network. It also describes how the agent manages software updates and handles data when the device is offline.
Target Audience:
IT administrators and support personnel who set up and manage the platform (All roles).
HP Partners who use the platform to manage their customers.
Hardware Usage
HP Insights Agent runs on devices enrolled in WXP. It is designed to be efficient and lightweight, with minimal impact on system resources. The key aspects of resource usage are:
CPU Usage: The agent software maintains an average CPU usage of less than 1%.
Memory Usage: Memory usage depends on the configuration. It usually stays around 200 MB on average.
Network Usage:
Batch Data Upload: The agent sends data once a day at a random time between 10 AM and 4 PM to avoid network congestion from devices uploading simultaneously. Typically, the data size ranges only from 50 KB to 500 KB.
Real-time Data Upload: Real-time data uploads are triggered when data changes are detected. These uploads are generally smaller in size, ranging from 1 KB to 10 KB.
Note: If a device is offline, the HP Insights Agent continues collecting data for both real-time and batch data uploads. However, the offline data collection is capped at 100MB. If the stored data exceeds the limit, the oldest data will be deleted to make room for new data. Once the device returns online, it will automatically upload all the data that couldn’t be sent.
Software updates of HP Insights: The HP Insights Agent consists of HP Insights and HP Insights Analytics, and each approximately 20 MB in size. After the initial installation, updates are only downloaded when available. However, due to our plugin-based configuration, the release frequency has been significantly reduced. This allows us to release updates for specific features only, usually requiring just a few kilobytes.
